The Story Behind the Diabetes Monster
Have you ever wondered what on earth that quirky mySugr diabetes monster is all about? He comes to life by making funny sounds, giving you feedback or being handcuffed in the mySugr app. The mySugr app is also where you can earn points for logging your blood sugar values. But what does it all mean?
The Idea Behind the Diabetes Monster
Diabetes is invisible. But those of you living with diabetes know that it is something to always think about. It is a full-time job, except for working 24 hours a day, with no breaks or free time.
The idea behind the diabetes monster is to put a face on this invisible chronic condition that is diabetes. Someone you want to yell at, but who is also your ally and is with you every step of the way (Yep, both are possible). The important thing about diabetes monsters is that they are all truly unique, because each person living with diabetes faces different challenges. This means that when you are living with diabetes, you are taking care of your own monster by taking care of your diabetes therapy.
The quirky little green monster is actually the symbol of all diabetes monsters. It is abstract, silly, slightly funny-looking but also likable. We are fully aware that you cannot beat the diabetes monster or get rid of it, but you can learn to live with it, understand its behaviour and even become its friend. This is what we call taming the monster.
What’s the Point of Points in the mySugr app?
This is one of the most common questions asked by people new to the mySugr app. The short answer is: You get points for taking care of your diabetes.
Many people at mySugr live with diabetes themselves and know how exhausting diabetes logging and management can be. That is why they reward you with points for each data entry. Remember, the more you log, the more you know and the easier it is to tame the diabetes monster. Make it your mission to get more points every day. The points system is a great way to motivate yourself. Ready to get started?
